Marketing with the Heart and Soul

We noticed there’s a lot of confusion about what marketing is, especially from a heart-and-soul perspective. Let’s find out what marketing with a heart is and isn’t.

WHAT HEART AND SOUL MARKETING ISN’T
The widespread aversion to marketing, especially by holistic-minded people, comes from three main areas.

1.  We are in an overly saturated marketing society, where materialism and bottom lines dominate. Being bombarded by marketing messages, we don’t want to add to the problem with our own marketing.

2.  There are well-done marketing messages, which then just don’t deliver. So they end up overpromising and under delivering.

3.  There are over-the-top marketing messages, which are deceptive and manipulative. We call this “predatory marketing,” which may also under delivers and definitely overpromises. After you get burnt by this kind of marketing, you may become suspicious of marketing in general.

WHAT HEART AND SOUL MARKETING IS

As distinguished from the previous examples, let’s give different ways to market with a heart.

1.  Marketing is educating.
You educate your customers/prospects around their interests. You offer relevant, helpful information.

2.  Marketing is about sharing and offering.
You share with your target audience (niche) things that will help them. You offer them goods and services that will clearly benefit them.

3.  Marketing is about helping people who want what you have to offer.
You don’t need to push any sales on people because this is the exact group whose problems you can solve. They are looking for what you have to offer (attraction marketing).

4.  Marketing is about building relationships.
Marketing is a process. Given the above aspects (educating, sharing, offering, helping), you are become a person your market “knows, likes and trusts.”

5.  Marketing is about getting your message out.
By knowing your gifts and talents and integrating that with your life purpose, you develop a clear message. “We help enterprising holistic practitioners who want to get their message and work out to the world and create thriving professional practices.” (our message).

I love this post. I have always run a mile from run-of-the-mill marketing, as do some of my coaching colleagues. Marketing certainly has some “rotten apples” but we can promote a new approach of education, value and sharing knowledge. Thanks for this.

Daria,

Thanks for the nice feedback. Yes, we’re trying to resurrect marketing from all the confusion and abuses, so holistic practitioners can thrive and we can all live in a more prosperous, loving world.

Phillip
