“Ready, Fire, Aim” is a catchy, clever phrase that translates into a call to action. It means overcoming the “paralysis of analysis,” to cite another term.
There is a time to plan and research, but it shouldn’t be an excuse for inaction and procrastination.
LIFE PURPOSE, GOALS AND STRATEGIES
Goals can be guideposts for your life purpose. Yes, you know goals will help you succeed. Especially if your goals are put in writing.
Writing down your goals has a neurological and psychological effect. It’s a kind of contract with yourself. Once written, you are saying that you are committed.
Your goals will continue to change, get updated and completed. In the process of reaching your goals, you want to have strategies. These strategies are concrete actions that will help you fulfill your goals.
AN EXAMPLE
For example, you have a life purpose to help people reach their highest potential. A related goal is to attract your ideal clients to you.
But without a strategy to connect with potential clients, little may happen. Your goals and life purpose might remain unrealized.
If you implement marketing strategies, however, you can take action to fulfill your dreams, goals and life purpose.
For example, we wanted to build our list as a way of fulfilling our purpose and goals. So our strategies have included making relevant tweets on Twitter, creating the International Association of Holistic Practitioners Facebook Fan Page and offering free teleseminars.
THINKING AND PLANNING ARE IMPORTANT, BUT…
And while it’s good to plan, if we wait for our ducks to be all in a row… well we’d still be planning and waiting for that someday to come…
Many holistic practitioners are hesitant to take action (“…fire”). To be sure, it’s necessary at first to learn your craft, get good training and practice. With that foundation, you can use your gifts and talents to really help people (your life purpose).
But at a certain point (probably better sooner than later), it’s time to get out there and really “ready, fire, aim.”
You can only know so much. You’ll never know it all.
Yes keep learning. But take action to fulfill your purpose and goals. You can’t avoid mistakes, but you can learn from them.
Thinking and planning are important. But you’ll get paid for your actions that produce results. Put your strategies into action and track what works.
“I WAS FORCED TO TAKE ACTION”
A former student from our Holistic Coaching and Healing Certification Telecourse had a telling experience. He paid for an ad in a paper telling people about his practice that he was just starting up.
In his ad that would appear in a month, he included his website. Only problem was he didn’t have a website yet. So placing the ad forced him to take action. He got a domain name and put up his blog. Ready, fire, aim…
3 IMPORTANT POINTS TO CONSIDER
So ask yourself,
- What is my larger purpose and goals?
- What strategies do I need to take in order to fulfill my purpose and goals?
- What can I do today and this week to take action and move forward?
Please share with us your thoughts on “ready, fire, aim…”

A good affirmation is “my time is now.” The world can use what you have to offer.
Good grief! I really really needed these prophetic words today. THANKS so much!
Tammy,
It’s good to know we’re always getting feedback if we pay attention.
