What services and/or products do you offer in your holistic practice?

I work primarily with EFT, TAT, NLP and Hypnotherapy. I fit the temperament profile of the Highly Sensitive Person, or “Idealist/Healer,” and that has been my area of specialty in my work.  I was on staff at the Findhorn spiritual community in Scotland (an international non-denominational spiritual community and educational foundation) for seven years, leaving in 1981. Ever since then I have been exploring the deep practice of bringing spiritual awareness to the present moment.  I have worked for 25 years as a counselor and Intuitive Mentor, and I have written several books on EFT and the highly sensitive temperament, spirituality, and chronic illness.

What piece of advice can you offer to those who are starting their holistic practices?

I think the best advice is to pay attention to what lights you up inside, and makes your heart sing. Then follow your curiosity wherever it leads. Develop a niche that is endlessly interesting to you. Find training that is fascinating and fun, that challenges you to deepen and expand yourself in every way. Follow your own guidance. Don’t try to save the world. Take care of yourself.  Don’t give yourself away, either energetically or financially.  Do give yourself permission to succeed. Find a business coach or mentor who can help you to structure your practice so that it works for you.

What is one thing you did building your practice that you would want others to avoid?

I can’t think of anything that I would have done differently.  I made many choices along the way that were useful at the time, and most of them eventually evolved into other choices.  Basically I have just followed my nose and my heart. I always assume that interesting opportunities are just around the corner, and it is my job to notice what they might be.  So I investigate whatever crosses my path, with the question, “Will this door open?  I wonder what is behind it?”  You never know where a seemingly random thought or connection will lead.  And I always allow myself to make a different choice.  I am not in the “You made your bed, now you must lie in it” school.

What is your best tip for having an enterprising and successful mindset?

Stay open, stay curious, only follow paths that feel good to you.  Make sure you define what “success” and “abundance” mean to you personally.  Don’t just assume that other people are on the right track because they are “out there.”  Trust your own inner wisdom.  Your body and your emotions always respond truthfully.  Only do what you are truly committed to doing.  Find your own way to put yourself out there, make each situation yours.  Always be asking yourself, “How can I make this work for me?  How can I translate this idea/strategy/opportunity into an expression that is consistent with my own integrity, my own heart, my own truth?”

What is most exciting about where you see your practice going this year?

I am very interested in exploring marketing and spirituality.  Here is an article that I wrote about this exploration:  Rue-minations on Marketing and Love.

Each month, the International Association of Holistic Practitioners (IAHP) features one of our members, showcasing their successes, tips, and the strategies they are using to excel. If you are a member and wish to share your success tips with the IAHP Community and beyond, please contact us.
