Do you ever have any of the following thoughts about your holistic practice/business?
- People don’t know what I’m offering – and how would I get noticed anyway with all the competition?
- People don’t understand me and my business.
- My area is too conservative, not open to alternative things.
- People won’t pay me (or pay me well) for what I do.
If you feel weighed down by any of these thoughts, here is something to consider. Perhaps you are marketing-phobic. It took us a while to recognize and get free of this sabotaging attitude.
WHAT IS MARKETING PHOBIA?
In addition to the above thoughts, here are other signs of marketing phobia. You believe…
- Marketing isn’t spiritual
- You will be rejected and fail
- You don’t want to be a “salesman”
- You are worried of what people will think, perhaps you will be too pushy or exposed
- You think it wrong to charge money for anything related to spirituality
Note that the above items are mindset beliefs, one’s that will certainly limit your success. The good news they can be overcome, as we will explain.
AND WHAT EXACTLY IS MARKETING?
Let’s start to define what marketing actually is. It doesn’t have to include any of the above marketing-phobic beliefs. Even though people have misused marketing (by obnoxious messages and over promising), it still is an essential communication tool.
Marketing is simply getting your message out. It’s you educating people about what you have to offer. It’s building relationships with people who are interested in your offerings.
THE 800 POUND GORILLA IN THE ROOM
That big gorilla people don’t want to recognize is the fear of marketing and getting “out there.”
If you have gifts and skills that can help people (and you do), then don’t you owe it to yourself to share how you can help with others? Dare we say, you need to “market” your offerings/services.
So you have some expertise that produces results, what’s next? Learn how to market yourself. Get help marketing, such as with IAHP.
We are so grateful that we have coaches who help us and have invested in programs that have made a difference in our business and led us to our next steps. It is really an investment in ourselves.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Part of upgrading your mindset includes learning how to market. You may need to do some EFT or another modality to start addressing fear-based beliefs.
Get your mind clear and positive about marketing, i.e., getting your message out. Then you can focus on what you want (the law of attraction).
Then the 800 pound gorrilla (marketing phobia0 will disappear. And you can get out there and make the world a better place.
To recap: identify marketing-phobic thoughts; learn how to market; keep a positive mental attitude; and take action. The world needs what you have to offer.
Connecting with successful marketing is why we created the International Association of Holistic Practitioners (IAHP). Take a look.

Probably the first step in overcoming a phobia (irrational fear) is admitting you have it.
I know marketing used to be something scary, mysterious and foreboding. With knowledge and changing my mindset, and taking action, I see marketing in a different light then earlier in my career. It has many rewards to it now. And it can be enjoyable doing marketing as well.
