What do you think of when you hear the word “ambition”? To be ambitious evokes different feelings. Some distasteful, some inspiring. Let’s explore how we can better understand and use ambition.
On the negative side, ambition links to Shakespeare’s tragic Macbeth character, whose downfall came from “overvaulting ambition.”
Ambition can associate to a compulsive need to succeed. It can lead to being spellbound by a 3d success, driven by having and acquiring. Ambition can translate to an extremely external approach to life, devoid of inner joy and fulfillment.
On the inspirational side, ambition can lead to fulfilling your purpose, your higher mission. Once you become more purpose-centered, you create goals and strategies to fulfill them. This journey is exciting and meaningful. It becomes part of your reason for being. Your purpose not only benefits you, it benefits others.
So you can be holistically minded and ambitious. You can hunger for a better life and better world – and take action to make it happen.
THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF AMBITION
Without enough “positive” ambition, you can feel stuck. Your energy can be repressed. You’re not as alive as you could be. Find what excites you and let it motivate you to create more.
On the other hand, when you become too “driven” by ambition, slow down. Keep breathing and return to the moment. Then let your brightest possible future lead you forward.
No need to become a tragic figure like Macbeth. Just find your purpose and act accordingly. Your positive ambition will help you shine brightly.
Both too much and too little ambition can leave you feeling unfulfilled.
FINDING YOUR BALANCE
A balance can be struck, once you start becoming positively ambitious. As part of your ambition, you can also continue to just “be.” Continue to meditate and reflect on your life. Let your life become a living meditation.
With positive ambition, you can do a lot, richly fulfilling your purpose, making your contribution. And you can still breathe and just be, as well.
