3-Part Strategy to Getting Your Message Out

Want a greater life? Improve your communication. Here’s how…

On our Heart and Soul of Success Blogtalk radio show today, we had the pleasure of interviewing branding expert Samantha Hartley.  Here are some key points from our lively discussion with her, including a 3-part strategy to succeed:

  • Branding yourself (for your business or a project you want to share with others) is important. Yet it’s a misunderstood idea. People mistakenly assume it’s the province of big corporations like Coca Cola or Hyundai. Or it’s just a logo.
  • Establishing your identity clearly and quickly (branding) does a lot of the “heavy lifting” for your communication.
  • Have your brand communicate what you do, including the benefits you offer. For example, Samantha’s website is http://www.enlightenedmarketing.com/ ; our website here is http://heartandsoulofsuccess.org
  • Don’t expect others to understand you. Avoid blaming yourself or others and take responsibility for understanding yourself and others.

Here’s Samantha’s 3-part strategy for exceptional communication:

1. What exactly is your message?
Set your intent to clearly determine what it is and how you expect people to respond to your message. What is the best possible outcome for you when people read/hear/see your message?  Is it to sign up for your newsletter or free gift. To visit your store or make an inquiry or what?

2. How visible are you to your audience?
Find out how they think and where they hang out, so you can get on their radar screen regularly. Where do they physically go (meetings, seminars, stores)? Where do they virtually go (social networks, websites, forums)?  Find a way to connect with them regularly.

3. How do you know if your message is resonating?
In business, it’s called a “performance assessment,” an evaluation of your work.  For your business or project, you need to find ways to get feedback.  For example, put out surveys, listen to comments. do some research. In other words, stay in tune with your audience.

Sometimes your audience will confirm your expectations about how you are doing and what they want. Other times, the results will really be surprising. Ultimately, seek to know your audience better than they know themselves.
